A workshop entitled Recycling rubble in Iraq the reality and vision of the future

In cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP).
The Department of Civil Engineering/Branch of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering held a workshop entitled
<< Recycling rubble in Iraq: reality and future vision >>
This took place at nine o’clock in the morning on Monday, March 4, 2024, in the conference hall of the Computer Engineering Department. The workshop was attended by a delegation from the Ministry of Environment, the Department of Roads and Bridges, a delegation from the General Municipalities Directorate, the Ministry of Construction, Housing, Municipalities, and Public Works, and a number of university teachers, employees, and students.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Youssef Fattah, Scientific Assistant, gave a welcome speech on behalf of the distinguished President of the University, Professor Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Al-Ghaban, in which he welcomed the audience, in which he mentioned that the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Technology is interested in holding seminars and workshops that contribute to developing solutions to environmental problems and supporting infrastructure. Recycling construction and demolition waste is an important process to preserve the environment and reduce pollution. It contributes to saving natural resources and reducing the use of raw materials, and reduces the amount of waste produced by the construction and demolition industry.
He welcomed the distinguished guests from the Ministry of Environment, university professors, and researchers, and wished the participants to benefit from the symposium’s outcomes to build our beloved Iraq.

The workshop included several lectures
•The first lecture: An overview of the work of the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) regarding recycling of rubble in Iraq / delivered by Hassan Berto/ Program Director of the Disasters and Conflicts Department at UNEP
•The second lecture: Projects implemented in Mosul / delivered by m. Rania Raad
•The third lecture: The projects implemented in Kirkuk and the experimental road / delivered by M. Anwar Saadoun / IOM Organization
•The fourth lecture: Recycling rubble: global experience and international specifications / delivered by M.M. Mustafa Mohamed Tayeb / University of Technology
•Fifth lecture: Listing the Iraqi standard specifications/standardization and quality control device
The results of studies and research at the University of Mosul in the field of debris recycling were discussed, as well as the results of technological studies and research in the field of debris recycling.
Finally, the discussion was opened between the attendees and the lecturers
The recommendations of the workshop will be formulated for the purpose of sending them to the relevant authorities to benefit from them
