The workshop was opened with the national anthem, and then a recitation from the Holy Qur’an. Hassan Hamoudi Johnny greeted the honorable guests and attendees, and mentioned that the university today, represented by the Department of Civil Engineering, is always working to hold workshops and seminars that deal with problems and topics related to the specialization of the department and what is related to the topics and problems needed by the executive departments and in a way that serves the community, including today’s workshop that deals with an important topic to prepare a spatial database for studying The problem of earthquakes and the resulting devastating earthquakes struck the sisterly Syrian Arab Republic and neighboring Turkey, calling on everyone to benefit from the recommendations of the workshop in a manner commensurate with the importance of the subject Then followed by the speech of the Director of the Remote Sensing and GIS Research Unit, M. Muthanna Muhammad Al-Bayati, in which she talked about the goal of the workshop, which is to prepare a central database to follow up on earthquakes in Iraq and its surrounding areas, since earthquakes have a wide impact And reviewing the possibility of the Remote Sensing Research Unit in scientific and research cooperation with other institutions in providing solutions to problems and crises in the service of the public interest.
The workshop dealt with several lectures
- The first lecture on the use of geographic information systems in the analysis of spatial data (by the lecturer: M. Muthanna Muhammad Al-Bayati, Director of the Remote Sensing and GIS Research Unit
- The second lecture on the possible effects of earthquakes on dams, a case study on the Darbandikhan dam (by the lecturer: Dr. Haider Adnan Al-Bahadli / General Authority of Geological Survey)
- The third lecture on the catastrophic effects of the series of earthquakes on the agricultural sector in the Syrian Arab Republic (by the lecturer: Dr. Adnan Amiri / economist - Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (Clothing) the Syrian Arab Republic)
- The fourth lecture on the role of the moon and planets in the occurrence of earthquakes (Lecturer: Dr. Bassem Rushdi Hijab)
- The fifth lecture on the spatial analysis of the impact of ground movements on national security for the lecturer: (Dr. Aws Jamhour Hassan and Mr. Hussein Jassem Youssef / Ministry of Defense / General Directorate of Intelligence and Security / Directorate of Moot Intelligence
- The sixth lecture on seismic hazards in Turkey and their impact on the infrastructure in Iraq for the lecturer (Senior Chief Geologists, Shamel Jawad Abdullah / Ministry of Oil / Oil Exploration Company - Quality Control Department
At the end of the workshop, the lecturers and those in charge of the workshop were honored by the esteemed head of the department
Seminars for graduate students of the health and environmental engineering branch
The Health and Environmental Engineering Branch in the Civil Engineering Department held panel discussions for postgraduate master's students to discuss the course of the branch's students' research on Tuesday 5/23/2023 and in the discussion hall in the department
In the presence of the head of the department, Prof. Dr. Hassan Hamoudi Johnny, and Prof. Fares Hamoudi, the head of the branch, a number of the branch's professors and supervisors, and a number of postgraduate students in the department
Where the students reviewed their completed research and the obstacles they face for the purpose of seeking to address them, and presented valuable interventions by the professors to evaluate the course of the research by asking the important accurate scientific questions related to the research.
A training course for the structural investigator in the Civil Engineering Department

The Civil Engineering Department is holding a training course for the structural investigator in cooperation with the American Concrete Institute (ACI) for the period from 5/8/2023 to 6/5/2023. American Concrete (ACI) is valid for work inside and outside Iraq.
A scientific visit to the Marina residential complex project
As part of the scientific activities conducted by the Civil Engineering Department, the Building Engineering and Project Management Branch in the department made a scientific visit to one of the investment projects, which is the Marina residential complex project in Al-Saydiyah area for students of the fourth stage / evening study from the Building Engineering and Project Management Branch on Saturday 05/13/2023 in the presence of Dr. Maan Nihad Al-Jamil and a number of students of the fourth stage - the evening study of the construction and project management branch, in order to learn about the methods of implementation of the various work items, deepen the applied and practical side, and develop the practical spirit to realize the information and knowledge that students receive from a theoretical point of view at the university. Where the faculty and students were received by Project management During this scientific tour, a full explanation was given by the teacher and the project management, and all the students’ questions were answered. The students interacted greatly and benefited from the information they received on the site, in addition to seeing the materials and techniques used in the project. Thanks were directed to the project management for providing the opportunity for our children Students to visit the project and see most of the implementation details
The Geomatics Engineering Branch won the department's football championship for students
Where 8 teams participated, representing the six engineering branches of the department, and two teams from the first grade, morning and evening
The Geomatics Branch won the championship after winning the final match over the first in the evening, with a score of 3 × 1

At exactly eleven o’clock in the morning on Monday, 8/5/2023, and in the discussion hall in the department, the assistants of the head of the scientific and administrative department, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Youssef Fattah and Prof. Dr. Wael Shawky Abdel-Sahib, a delegation from the Marshes Restoration Center / Ministry of Water Resources, and a number of faculty and staff of the department
The workshop included two lectures:
-The first lecture was given by: Dr. Muntaha Qassem on (Detection of sand storms using detection indicators taken from satellite images)
- The second lecture given by: Ali Karim Shaish, a teacher, on (a study linking the changes in the drainage of the Euphrates River with the elements of the water pattern of the Mesopotamian marshes).

Workshop on graduation requirements for postgraduate students
This will be at ten o’clock in the morning on Wednesday, corresponding to 3/5/2023, and in the discussion hall in the department
A number of graduate students from the Building Materials Engineering Branch, Geomatics Engineering and Water Resources Engineering participated in the workshop, in the presence of the heads and rapporteurs of the branches.
The lecture was delivered by the teacher, Dr. Ahmed Shamkhi Jabr (Director of the Graduate Studies Division).
The workshop included several topics:
- The first axis - important notes about the electronic quotation program (Turnitin).
- The second axis - the effective use of Microsoft Word in theses and dissertations.
- The third axis - requirements for publication and reliability in the Scopus and Clarivate containers.
the meeting of the Deans Committee of the Faculties of Engineering of Iraqi Universities
The head of the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Technology, Professor Dr. Hassan Hamoudi Johnny, chaired the meeting of the Deans Committee of Engineering Faculties in Iraqi and private universities in its third session for the academic year 2022/2023 on Wednesday, 3-5-2023, in the presence of the deans of government and private colleges
The Chairman of the Committee welcomed the distinguished attendees.
The session included a discussion of many important matters, the most important of which is the readiness and preparation for the application of the Bologna track as an educational system in the faculties of engineering and science for the next academic year and listening to the view of the Iraqi Council for Engineering Accreditation and the opinions, proposals and inquiries of the deans about the mechanism for implementing this new system, and it was recommended to study the system guide that was circulated By the Ministry in an in-depth manner and to find out all its details, then a recommendation is made and a detailed report is submitted to the Ministry on the subject to inform all inquiries and proposals. The meeting also discussed the books received by the committee from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research / Department of Studies, Planning and Follow-up, the Scientific Supervision and Evaluation Authority, the Department of Research and Development, the Department of Private University Education, and books received from Iraqi universities, and the necessary measures were taken in their regard according to the requirements of each topic.
The meeting concluded with the Chairman of the Committee thanking Uruk University for hosting the meeting and thanking everyone for their attendance and interaction with the meeting paragraphs, wishing them continued success in their tasks.

The Geomatics Engineering Branch held the first seminar for doctoral students to discuss their research path on Tuesday, 12/27/2022, in the discussion hall in the department, and in the presence of the head of the branch, Prof. Dr. Distinguished Abdul Karim Alwan, a number of supervisors, branch professors, and postgraduate students, where the students reviewed their research and presented valuable interventions by the professors to evaluate the course of the research by asking important scientific questions related to the research.
