Within the Visiting Industrial Professor Program, which is joined by the Quality Assurance and Performance Evaluation Division in the Civil Engineering Department at the University of Technology for the purpose of developing students’ skills in the engineering, scientific and applied aspects required by engineering jobs in the labor market.
The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Technology held a lecture entitled:
(Air conditioning works in projects)
On Thursday, February 22, 2024, at ten in the morning, in the central hall of the department, the lecture was given by Dr. Engineer Muhannad Raad Al-Haibi, a certified engineering lecturer and trainer, author of the book Air Conditioning Guide, and holds intellectual property rights from the Intellectual Works Administration at the Ministry of Economy in the United Arab Emirates, in the presence of Assist.Prof.Dr. Ali Majeed Khudair, Head of the Civil Engineering Department, and a number of the department’s teaching staff, affiliates, and students.
The lecture included several topics, including:
-The importance of air conditioning work in construction projects
-The relationship of air conditioning works to all construction works
-Stages of air conditioning work in the project
The lecture aimed to introduce students of engineering colleges specialized in design, construction and maintenance work to the importance of air conditioning work in construction projects and how to coordinate construction work to avoid the occurrence and recurrence of design, implementation and operational errors and avoid their damage and losses.
In conclusion, a certificate of appreciation was presented to the lecturer, Dr. Engineer Muhannad Raad, and in turn, the head of the department presented a gift to Assist.Prof.Dr. Ali Majeed Khudair’s book, A Guide to Air Conditioning Projects in Engineering Facilities, which is considered one of the modern sources in designing and selecting air conditioning systems in engineering buildings.

The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Technology awarded a master’s degree in the field of (road and transportation engineering) to the student Iftikhar Abdel-Saheb Abdel-Abbas on 2/22/2024 for her thesis titled:
Evaluation of the performance of the injected porous asphalt mixture
Performance evaluation of grouted porous asphalt concrete
The discussion committee consisted of:
1-Prof.Dr. Hassan Hamoudi Jouni, President
2-Assist.Prof.Dr. Nour Moataz Ismail, member
3-M.Dr. Rasha Hassan Abdel Amir, member
4-Prof.Dr. Miami Mohamed Hilal, member and supervisor
5-Prof. Dr. Muhammad Youssef Fattah, member and supervisor
In this study, two different types of semi-flexible paving mixes were produced using two different types of injection materials. There is a discrepancy between the compressive strength of the two injection materials used, as the compressive strength of the first mixture, which consists of (96% cement, 4% silica fume (SF), was approximately twice the compressive strength of the second mixture, which consists of (75% cement, 25% sand). Study of the mechanical properties and durability of the two types of semi-flexible paving produced, in addition to the effect of the difference in the compressive strength of the two injection materials and their effect on the final performance of the paving. The results of Marshall and rutting tests show that the SFP material shows good stability at high temperatures. The effect of the difference in the compressive strength of the two mixtures was demonstrated in Test results: Compared with the 20.8 MPa sand mixture, the 48.1 MPa SF saw a 39.54% increase in Marshall stability. At a curing life of 28 days, the composite material (CM) also showed better rutting performance than conventional asphalt mixtures.

A scientific visit to the central library

Within the activities of the Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit in the Department of Civil Engineering, the Construction Engineering and Project Management Branches and the Water Engineering and Hydraulic Structures Branch for fourth-year students in the two branches made a scientific visit to the Central Library at the University of Technology and the Central Library at the University of Baghdad on Monday, February 19, 2024, under supervision. Members of the psychological counseling and educational guidance committee in the department
- Prof. Dr. wameedh Ghassan
-Assist.Prof. Dr. Ahlam Sader
-Assist.Prof. Nour Hashem
This is to learn about the library’s sections, how to archive books, and how to borrow engineering and scientific books from them

Within the program of courses held by the Civil Engineering Department, the Asphalt Laboratory held a training course entitled (Examination of maximum laboratory density of asphalt mixtures Gmm) for the period 18-22/2/2024.
He gave the lecture at the course
Hammam Hassan Mohammed
Engineer Heba Yassin Khudair
The course covered the definition and training of examiners on how to conduct the maximum laboratory density test for non-compressed asphalt mixtures at a temperature of 25 according to the approved American specification ASTM D2041.
Theoretical and practical training was also conducted
A number of laboratory staff members and graduate students participated in the course
